One More Smith participates in another large scale animal rescue

July 9, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE One More Smith participates in another large scale animal rescue CHESTER , New Jersey (July 8, 2010) On the heels of participating in three major animal rescue operations, One More Smith (OMS) has answered a request from the ASPCA, American Humane Society and PetSmart Charities, to join with other well-established shelters and rescue operations and help handle the overflow from a Pennsylvania operation which exceeded its capacity, creating an unsafe environment for its animals. One More Smith now has four new residents in its cat sanctuary. Each cat arrived FIV positive and weak from lack of proper care. These newest residents are settling in, eating and are under medical supervision. Allison Cardona, ASPCA Director of Operations thanked OMS for opening its doors, “Last week we put out an urgent plea for help with the almost 400 cats rescued from a ‘sanctuary’ in Western PA. At the height of kitten season, your organization responded and opened up your doors to these cats, giving them the second chance they deserve. From everyone at the ASPCA, thank you for your partnership and generosity, we could not have done this rescue without you.” Amy Smith, a founding member of One More Smith, noted that “To be asked to participate by some of the largest and most well-established animal organizations in New Jersey and in the United States is a huge step forward for One More Smith.” She continued, “However, it also is a great reminder that there is a thin line between helping and becoming overwhelmed by too large of a population.” Unfortunately, Purdy’s Perch, the OMS isolation room utilized for the sickest cats is currently full, limiting its ability to provide care to other needy cats, without expansion of services. OMS, a nonprofit organization, is able to provide care for these unwanted animals through tax-deductible donations from caring donors. Ms. Smith explained, “One More Smith has taken in a large number of animals since the fiscal crisis began 18 months ago. Our key focus right now is caring for our current residents and recognizing our sanctuary is at a healthy, safe and manageable number. To do this, we are looking for support from those who share our mission.” To make a donation, please visit our website: onemoresmith.org About One More Smith: OMS is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization which provides medical care, safe shelter, food, training and affection to homeless domestic animals with medical and behavioral problems to animals that are unwanted due to the limited resources of individuals and other animal organizations.
