Facebook Fans Tell Their Animal Rescue Stories
December 31st, 2009
We have gotten some great comments directly to us from fans and I want to share with you.
This is from Fred in NJ:
“I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy New Year. I hope your efforts save thousands of animals.”
Stacy and Ben from NY write:
“Glad to help. Between Ben and I we have adopted (saved) four dogs so we REALLY believe in the cause.”
Mciahel from Ohio writes:
“No thanks needed, I should be thanking you for all those animals. I truly admire your passion and passion persuades! I wish you a happy and healthy new year filled with much success! I am committed to using my God given talents to help you on your mission.”
Liane Brennan Buttiglire writes:
“I have a feral cat living in my garage. I have bedding in a cozy corner and I’ve been feeding him (I hope it’s a him) for 4 months now. He trusts me enough now to come within a few inches, but any closer then that & he’s gone. I named him Grease Lightning. My concern is his health, although he looks healthy at the m…oment. I have a small dog, who is interested in Grease but not to the point off chasing him. My question is that if I feel Grease is sick, how do you catch a feral cat. Should I call in to a shelter? I don’t think he would go willingly to a cage, too smart for that. Thanks for any input Good luck with your Sanctuary & God Bless”
Mike from South Jersey writes:
“This is really great. I donate throughout the year to about 6 charities, one of the top 3 being the HSUS. I will be sure to make OMS one of my causes.”
Michala from NYC writes:
“What you and Amy are doing is truly amazing! I volunteer at my local animal shelter and am always looking for other ways to help. I will certainly become a fan on Facebook and make a donation. Please do not hesitate to let me know how I else I can possibly help you in your efforts.”
Freckles
December 30th, 2009
One of our newer residents, a beautiful yet feral girl named Freckles, is resting comfortably at the vet’s, being treated for a very bad upper respiratory infection. ‘Tis the season…..we can’t wait for Purdy’s Perch to be completed, so sick animals can remain onsite while they are recuperating. Thank you to everyone …for your donations…we could not do it without your support. You are making a huge difference in the lives of so many needy animals!
Freckles came in with a group from a hoarders home you probably heard of in the news. Isn’t it amazing that a rescue effort that was so famous, still needs places like OMS for these cast-aways. Purdy’s Perch is so important because the cost of housing a sick animal overnight at a hospital could be $500 to $1000 a day.
Cat Health Room Materials Donation
December 30th, 2009
Great news!
One More Smith was able to order all the material needed for the building of the cat health room, it will be called “Purdy’s Perch”. This room will help facilitate wellness in the cats struggling with continual illness. This room will be a sterile and serene environment. For residents that come with severe medical or neglect and need to heal or get well. This room will be dedicated to Purdy, a great dog who’s owner sent a significant donation in her honor.
New Fencing Donated
December 29th, 2009
We are very excited…….our new fencing for an expanded cat sanctuary run has shipped!
Thanks to a significant donation from a great friend to animals this run will be complete by the end of January. This has allowed for 200 hundred square feet of natural habitat to be added. This is great support and we are so grateful.
We are calling it Carina Way!

Letter from One More Smith
December 17th, 2009
Dear Friends,
I have very exciting news. As you know, one of mine and Monica’s greatest passions has been to bring an end to animal homelessness. In 2000 we began a mission to focus on saving “One” animal at a time. Over this last decade we have saved over a thousand animals.
Today, we are very proud to say that our dream has now become a reality. “One More Smith, LLC” is incorporated and registered federally as a nonprofit and we have officially launched our website. Under our care today we are responsible for over 100 animals with the greatest percentage of the population being medically fragile or unadoptable, which means they are officially Smith residents.
This year more than ever our modest facility was stretched to its capacity as shelters in fiscally challenged towns turned to us, rescue groups with nowhere to place fragile souls needed our sanctuary and animals with acute conditions faced an economic crisis where medical care was out of reach for their owners. We have managed to house these additional animals by doubling our square footage.
We are currently adding an additional cat sanctuary, housing, and an isolation room to help keep those critically ill in a clean and stable environment. Never before have Monica and I reached out to our friends and family for assistance, but we are asking for your help as we face an increasing demand to service the tri-state area.
Please visit our website and see the progress we have made. We ask that you consider for 2009 a donation; for $25 you can sponsor an animal in need. Please visit our website, please make us a “Fan” on Facebook, please consider us in future donations and please refer friends to us looking for a possible adoption, volunteerism or supplies they may want to donate.
In advance, I thank you for your help, support, and spreading the word. http://onemoresmith.org/
Happy Holidays and thank you again for lending your time to a calling we feel makes a difference in the lives of so many.
Our best to you,
Amy & Monica
